On 2/24/04, the Board reviewed the 6 general contractor
bids received for the construction project. Neff-Colvin was chosen as
general contractor with Doyle Plumbing-Heating and Gano Electric as the two
main subcontractors. All three companies are local. Doyle and Gano have
provided services to ECC for many years. Bids were very competitive. Total
cost of the project will be about $560,000. This project will add 12,000 to
Hanback, add two ADA bathrooms, and 3 docks.
The project should start in about one month and last
approximately 3 months.
There are going to be several times when concrete
cutting and interior construction will have to occur. We will deal with it
as it happens. Tours of the site will be made available as they are safe to
occur. There will be an outside location where construction activity can be
watched. No consumers or staff are to go into the construction areas without
the authorization of the contractor and a hardhat.
As the project completes we will be walling in the
overhang area to expand the class room space in Hanback. Over the next
several months we will begin looking at rearranging classrooms. Since
everything will be on one floor in Hanback (classes, restrooms, kitchen,
entrance, break area) it is likely that consumers with mobility issues will
get transferred to Hanback. |
