CENTER NEWS LETTER

HANBACK ADDITION
On 2/24/04, the ECC Board reviewed the 6 general
contractor bids received for the construction project to add 12,000 sq ft,
two ADA bathrooms, and 3 docks to the Hanback building on our campus.
Neff-Colvin was chosen as general contractor with Doyle Plumbing-Heating and
Gano Electric as the two main subcontractors. All three companies are local.
Doyle and Gano have provided services to ECC for many years. Bids were very
competitive. Total cost of the project will be about $560,000.
As the project completes we will be walling in the
overhang area to expand the classroom space in Hanback. Over the next
several months we will begin looking at rearranging classrooms. Since
everything will be on one floor in Hanback (classes, restrooms, kitchen,
entrance, break area) it is likely that consumers with mobility issues will
get transferred to Hanback. |

| SOME STATISTICS |
|
 |
 |
| The Program Evaluation system indicates
that over the last three years ECC demographic census has stayed extremely
stable. This is no surprise. 40% of consumers live at JDC, 40% live in some
type of supported housing at Pathway, CLO, Hoots, 10% live with family, and
10% live independently. The graphs above show about 135-150 people have
been involved in our Developmental Training program. The group is getting
older. |

St. Patrick’s Day
Social
A combined group from the Hanback and Teaford
Buildings observed St. Patrick’s Day with a party and an interactive
presentation on the people and culture of Ireland. Consumers assisted in
planning, decorating, and food preparation. Hand-made party favors were
presented to the host class and the theme was “Green for a Day”. The menu
included green chicken salad sandwiches, green grapes, and green iced
brownies and cookies with a green drink. There was a very in active
discussion of Ireland’s people and customs. The entire group provided their
own entertainment of Irish songs and related events utilizing the creative
talent among them. The classes are already planning their next social to
include the Easter season.

THE THIRD ANNUAL ECC GOLF TOURNAMENT
It is that time again. The third leg of the ECC Golf
Tournament is coming Friday August 20, 2004 at Northridge Golf Course in
Jacksonville. Get your teams together. Hole sponsorships and teams will be
available. Info about the tournament will be on the ECC webpage. You will
get a more complete mailing in several weeks. Come and lose some balls.
Since Northridge runs along our north property line, we have plenty of
balls. Skill is not required. Just a desire to enjoy the day and have fun.
Should be a great day! |
