RESIDENTIAL
SERVICES |
| Residential Services were
developed in response to the housing needs of people with disabilities,
primarily mental illness. Its major goal is to assist people to live as
independently as possible. |
| Group Homes |
| Group homes are the most
structured setting operated by Elm City. Emphasis is on people learning and
doing the usual activities encountered in daily living. Group areas such as
living room, dining room, and kitchen are shared, as are common tasks such as
menu planning, shopping, cooking, and cleaning. In addition, residents become
responsible for doing their laundry, making their beds, and taking
responsibility for their personal possessions. |
| Congregate Living |
| A staff member is available
24 hours a day to assist tasks as needed, help plan for recreational activities,
and to find solutions to problems as they arise. |
| Apartments |
|
Many people live independently throughout Jacksonville.
Support services are provided to help a person remain independent. Levels
of assistance may range from very minimal contact to daily checks. Services can
include balancing checkbooks, decisions on setting up a trip, or checking on
making sure medications are being taken as prescribed.

| Appropriate Settings |

Each person lives in a
setting appropriate to their ability. Some people need little assistance, while
others will learn various household tasks then move to a less structured living
arrangement such as supported apartment or independent living. Appropriate
supportive services are still available
