Services Available: A one-week overnight camp that is held at Western Illinois Youth camp in Jacksonville. The children experience traditional camping activities like swimming, crafts, and hiking. They also take part in educational sessions on anger management, conflict resolution, staying in school, avoiding gangs, drugs, alcohol, violence, and building self-esteem. Team building and cooperative activities are stressed all week.

Geographic area: Morgan, Cass, and Scott counties. Other counties are welcome to participate if local funds from those areas are used to send their children.

Population Served: Children ages 6 to 10 who come from low to no income families. Children must have finished kindergarten and can be going into fifth grade.

Eligibility Criteria: Low to no income family backgrounds.

Fees/Costs: None

Hours: July 24th through August 30th, 2004 (overnight)

Other: Staff is volunteer. Funds are raised through local charitable contributions by individuals, church groups, and civic groups, businesses, and small local grants. Camp Care-A-Lot is not a United Way Agency. Funds raised go directly to the camper program.
