QUICK NEWS

  • Our Winter 2007 Newsletter is right here. Get some of our recent news and current events. You will need the Adobe Reader  to see the newsletter. Just download the Reader from the menu on the left.  Here are some of our headlines:
    • Elm City Starts AKtion Club with Jacksonville Kiwanis Club.

    • Jacksonville hit by Huge Ice Storm. - Many broken trees throughout town and we close for 2 days.

    • Our Tree at the Woodhaven Festival of Trees is successful.

    • It was Thanksgiving and we fed 200 people right here at ECC.

    • Our Building Plans move on.

    • State Funding - No agreements between Governor and General Assembly.

  • Governor’s Vetoes Reverse Increases for Community Services During FY 2007 Budget Vetoes - Governor Implies Community Services Are “Non-Essential”- Last week, the Governor said he would cut “pork” and other “non-essential” spending from the budget that passed both the House and Senate. The Governor’s veto on August 23, 2007 was purely political, aimed directly at Speaker Madigan to attempt to bring him back to the table to negotiate a budget that includes healthcare expansion and likely a capital program. We believe the Governor is using organizations that represent people and issues affected by his vetoes to put pressure on Speaker Madigan. For the Governor to force our involvement by vetoing services important to us, he has done the unthinkable and directly implied that community services are not essential services.

  • ECC AWARDED 3 YEAR CARF ACCREDITATION - We received formal notice on August 21, 2007 that Elm City was given a three year accreditation. This is as high as the awards can be given. We have been nationally accredited by CARF since 1972.  A complete copy of our report is available here. You will need the Adobe Reader to view these documents. A link is available While the Division of Developmental Disabilities no longer requires CARF, The Division of Mental Health and Division of Vocational Rehabilitation both do.

The IARF FY 2008 - 2011 Gubernatorial Platform

Illinois Association of Rehabilitation Facilities (IARF) is calling on the Governor to adopt this Illinois agenda that will provide the needed supports and services to assure equal opportunity for persons with disabilities and mental illness to live, learn, work, and recreate in the community

  • Play for All Parks is open Get the background on this 100% accessible playground in South Jacksonville at Godfrey Park. The groundbreaking was on October 13, 2006. Grand Opening was on May 19, 2007. About 200 people attended. The play equipment was packed and then the water was turned on for the splash pad. The park has been very packed everyday since then.
